Ngee Ann X-Ventures Ngee Ann X-Ventures, meaning Extreme Adventures, was previously known as Adventure Ropes Course (ARC).
ARC was form in 1998 to train NP staffs and students to manage the Challenge Ropes Course (CRC) at Camp David, located opposite Kismis field. As Camp David is closing down, ARC has changed its focus to Adventure Racing. Rock Climbing was formed during 2006, as part of ARC with their focus on Rock Climbing. On the 26th of January 2008, which is the 9th Annual General Meeting, ARC and Rock Climbing was officially merged as 1 club under the name, X-Ventures. X-ventures now have 2 wings, Adventure Racing and Rock Climbing. To find out more about the extreme sports, please click on the tabs on the left to find out more. Milestones On the 20th of October 2007, ARC organized the Ngee Ann 1st Adventure Race, The Pinnacle 07. Ngee Ann is the 1st polytechnic to organize an adventure race in Singapore. The Pinnacle 08 will be coming back in mid July 08. Beside that, there will also be a rock climbing competition organized by X-ventures. So, stay tuned to our blog for updates!

Because adventure racing is a multi-discipline event, training for adventure racing combines pure strength and endurance
training with skills training. The three disciplines that should be practiced are 1) trekking or running 2) cycling 3) and paddling. It is worth
noting though, that to simply compete and have an enjoyable race, you do not need to be an expert in all these events.
Often a basic working knowledge will suffice. Navigation is another aspect to consider, so basic map and compass knowledge is often prerequisite for at least one teammate.
To become a competitive adventure racer, one must be an accomplished runner, mountain biker, paddler and navigator. Moreover, adventure race training goes beyond physical preparation; navigation skills,
rope knowledge and basic wilderness medicine skills are also vital when competing in the longer events. Proper nutrition, foot care, and mental preparation are essential during these longer races.

Because we do not only focus on any one aspect, we are exposed to many different elements of extreme sports, especially running, cycling, and many others!

Adventure racing is a combination of two or more disciplines, including orienteering and navigation,
cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and climbing and related rope skills.
An expedition event can span ten days or more while sprints can be completed in a matter of hours.
There is typically no dark period during races, irrespective of length; competitors must choose if or when to rest.

About Us
Now a part of X-Ventures, an extreme sports club, we are running with more than 30 members as a whole. We do top rope, bouldering, speed and lead climbing.Although we are a newly formed club, we organize
climbing trips overseas. An example is to Camp 5 in Kuala Lumpur.

* Largest climbing facility in Singapore with 1000 sq m of climbing and bouldering surface
Camp 5
Utama Shopping Centre
* Indoor climbing wall with 12 meter top rope walls, 8m trad rock-like wall with 16m lead climbing walls.
Slabs, roofs, dihedrals and 5.5m overhang. 300 square meters of bouldering on 2 free standing boulder blocks with a 5m top out.
Bouldering is climbing on low walls of about 4m. There is no rope involved as the walls are fairly short and crash mats are placed to prevent injury. The routes generally shorter but more powerful.
Top Rope Climbing: Top rope climbing is on a highwall with preplaced ropes. This is the easiest and safest form of climbing as the distance of a fall is minimum.
Speed Climbing
Speed climbing is a style of competition where climbers climb neck to neck to compete for the fastest timing.
Lead Climbing
Lead climbing is climbing without preplaced ropes. The climber has to bring the rope up bring clipping into carabiners also known as quickdraws along the way.
Deep Water Solo Climbing
Deep Water Soloing is the purest form of climbing, as it is performed with minimum equipment. Should a climber fall, he will fall into the world’s largest crash pad, the ocean.
Weekly Tips For Climbers
Endurance Drills
Endurance drills can be relatively simple but should be at least mildly fun. It takes a different mental approach to think that pushing yourself on a wall for 10-20 minutes in fun, but you should try and take that approach. Something to think about is that everyone gets pumped, it is the person who does more moves while pumped that will win the competition. Try and learn how to push yourself when pumped. For most people their footwork and technique are the rst things that fail them when they start to get tired. When doing these drills really concentrate on being as ecient as possible especially when you start getting tired. It doesn't make sense to make moves harder than they have to be especially when you are pumped.
